I've been in Product Management officially for the past 15 or so years, but have managed products for well over 20. I've directed many 0-1 and 1-N products at global scale, which includes building and leading globally distributed teams (Product & Engineering). I am currently serving as Senior Director of Product Management for Bloomerang. Bloomerang helps nonprofits deliver a better giving experience so they can raise more funds and create lasting change. Truly a worthwhile cause and one that I am very proud to be part of.
I've managed many products over my career including data and analytics solutions, AI/ML technologies, marketing automation platforms, retail systems, ERP/CRM packages, investment management software, and developer tools (IDE, database replication, integration platforms, etc.). I've also spent almost 10 years as a consultant working with over 150 organizations across many verticals such as healthcare, retail, manufacturing and distribution, financial services, education, government, and non profits. I've seen the good, the bad, and the downright ugly, and I've loved every minute of it.
I began my career as a Software Engineer, which laid the foundation for me to speak at both an Executive and a technical level. I've been told that I am a balanced blend of geek and business. Although I'm now a Product Executive, I still find myself "geeking out". I just love it and can't help myself. Most recently I've been developing a data warehouse to help me analyze product usage metrics and correlate those to operational and financial metrics. I've also been doing a lot of work around APIs and third-party product integrations. I've also begun experimenting with Large Language Models as I prepare for some 2024 innovation.
I do not subscribe to the maxim of "Build it and they will come" as it rarely ends well. Instead I believe that "Understand what they need and then deliver it" is the right way to to design and deliver impactful products. It's all about the customer and solving their problems.
I speak frequently on a global stage about topics such as Product Management, data warehousing and integration architecture, business intelligence best practices, UI/UX methodologies, and of course, passionately advocating the products that are under the management of my Product teams.
Thanks for taking the time to swing by my blog and for reading my bio.
Wishing you all the best
Mike
